Writers Helping Writers ran a GREAT guest post by C. S. Lakin HERE on how questions can create a story.

Angela Ackerman had two guest posts recently that are terrific. Click HERE for her post on 8 tools to keep the words flowing. Then click HERE for her post on 10 reasons our heroes need flaws. Great stuff!

Sorry I didn't get a post up last Sunday. Our computer had a visit from a virus and NOTHING was working on Sunday! AAUUGGGGHHH! I would sure like to know why there are people out there who get pleasure from messing up other people's computers. Anyway, my brilliant husband, Dave, got everything fixed up, so I'm back.

I changed things up a bit last time, writing a picture book review for the award-winning Stones for Grandpa. It was fun. I've been wanting to join Susanna Leonard Hill's Perfect Picture Book Friday (check it out HERE) for a while, so I am going to try to post more often -- on Fridays for Perfect Picture Book Fridays and on Sundays for middle grade, young adult, or adult books. That said, I won't get to it every Friday and Sunday, so please just go with the flow. I think you'll enjoy yourself and find out some new things. By the way, the author of this week's book, Nancy Bo Flood, just offered a signed copy to one lucky commenter, so please read to the end to find out how to win.

Title: Cowboy Up!

Photographer: Jan Sonnenmair
Publisher: WordSong, an imprint of Highlights
Year: 2013
Non-Fiction Poetry
Intended audience -- 8 to 12 years old
2013 Winner New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards
Named to the 2014 Notable Books for a Global Society (NBGS) award list.

This book gives a real picture of a Navajo rodeo, a celebration central to their people and a rite of passage for many of the Navajo children. This is a collection of delightful, insightful poetry, explanations of different segments of the rodeo, and gorgeous photographs of the events. Nancy Bo Flood is an extraordinary poet and writer. Jan Sonnenmair has a real talent for capturing the life and action of a rodeo. Together, they have created a perfect picture book.

Rodeo Rider

I want to be a rodeo rider --
Nancy Bo Flood
a barrel racing,
     crazy bull chasing,
lasso slinging,
     wild calf roping,
bronco busting,
     mutton tumbling,
rodeo rider.

The back of the book has a good history of the rodeo, a list of books about Rodeos and the Cowboy Life, Websites of Native American Rodeo Associations, and Other Websites of Interest.

I said earlier in the post that Nancy Bo Flood is going to send a signed copy of this extraordinary book to one lucky commenter. (This is for US addresses only.) If you are a follower, please leave a comment and your name will go into the proverbial hat. If you spread the word -- post the link to this post -- on your blog or on Facebook or through Twitter, please let me know you have done that and you will receive an extra entry. Not a follower? It's free and easy. Check in the right hand column.

I hope to see you all here on Sunday. I'll be reviewing a timely, terrific book and will have another giveaway. See you here!
